"I'll lend you for a little time a child of Mine," He said.
"For you to love the while she lives
And mourn for when she's dead.
It may be six or seven years, or twenty two or three,
But will you, till I call her back,
Take care of her for Me?
She'll bring her charms to gladden you,
And shall her stay be brief,
You'll have her lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay, since all from earth return
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over
In my search for teachers true
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes
I have selected you.
Now will you give her all your love,
Nor think the labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call to take her back again?
I fancied that I heard them say: "Dear Lord, Thy will be done!
For all the joy thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter her with tenderness, we'll love her while we may,
And for the happiness we've known
Forever grateful stay;
But shall the angels call for her much sooner than we've planned
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes
And try to understand
by Edgar Guest
In the early morning, amidst the rising sun,
A promise of his faithfulness, until the day is done,
Take the time to enjoy it, do not rush the day,
You will find many blessings, if you take the time to pray,
God did not intend for you, to miss the simple things,
Remember we are his servants, and He is the Mighty King.
And She Just Slipped Away
As time passed I waited with patience not knowing when the silence would come.
It would leave behind all the memories of years gone by, kept locked away in my heart forever.
Wanting to just hold her once last time and tell her not to go, but it was not an option that
could be bargained with. She was destined to go to a place that was ready for her,
and I would have to wait my turn.
My time is in this moment and I am destined to be here, for a while anyway. The pain of
knowing she would not be staying felt so fragile. The silence came when I was not expecting it.
Angels whisper among themselves, as they know when the time has come. One cannot will someone
to stay when the universe has already destined him to go. The power cannot be ours.
I remember the last phone call and I still recall her voice and her laugh. How sad things work out the
way they do.
She walked the earth in her own time and felt the rain and the wind and the snow. Then one day life stopped
for her and she just slipped away.
I Am The Breath of Life
I am the rain that falls gently upon the flowers and nourishes the earth.
I am the wind that dances upon the blades of grass and gently kisses your face.
I am the thunder that awakens the roots that lie dormant beneath the surface.
I am the sun that greets you every morning without fail and brings light into your world.
I am the tree that withstands the strongest winds and bows to the earth.
I am the stars that bring about childhood memories and dreams of far away places.
I am the river that that flows through the forests and the plains.
I am the blade of grass that remains silent until you hold me between your fingers.
I am the breath of life and I am found in all things and remain with you long after I am gone.
If I Should Fade Away
If I should fade away,
Into the distant sun,
And cast my rays upon the sea,
I'll win the race I've run.
If morning does not bring me breath,
Know that I've lived well,
For all the stories I loved to hear,
Are the ones I lived to tell.
See me in the rainbows,
That are cast upon your way,
Hear my voice upon the wind,
And remember me this day.
For I have lived in all the years,
And today the sun goes down,
But not without a memory of me,
In your heart I will be found.
Hold On To The Things That Last
Hold on to the things that last and define what is important to you. Choose how you ~ will spend time with the people you love.
Friends and work will come and go in your life ~ but family~ they are forever. The older you get ~ the more precious they become.
You may want to hold on to the years as they slip away ~ but that is not what life is about. It is about enjoying the moments ~ that make up all those years.
No one can predict what a moment will bring ~ but you can strive to make choices ~ that bring joy to your heart.
Don't be afraid to say how you feel ~ it is better to take a chance ~ than to live with regret.
So start today and let the people you love ~ know how you feel. If you can't say it in words ~ show it by your deeds. Actions can speak ~ what the heart cannot say.
Remember ~ this may be the only moment you have and the only chance to say ~ the words someone needs to hear. Don't let the moment slip away.
The Autumn of A Life
The autumn of a life is splashed with colors of gold,
Orange, reds and yellows and dreams untold,
In the autumn sky the geese form a line,
Seeking a destination from the seasons of time,
Autumn reminds us that the leaves will fall,
Preparing for winter as the north wind calls,
In the Autumn of Life changes occur,
What lies beyond we cannot be sure,
Autumn’s colors are yours and their mine,
Held in our hearts like the hands of time.
In the Autumn of Life we let summer go,
What lies ahead ~ only the good Lord knows.
They Are No Longer Here
They are no longer here ~ they now live beyond
From the realm of our reality ~ they are all but gone.
Each holds a place ~ a memory kept close at hand
For each can be present ~ though gone from this land.
I carry them on my shoulder ~ and hold them in my heart
Each is a part of my journey ~ though we are apart.
Love does not die ~ or fade into the night
To those of us who love them ~ we have them all in sight.
For sight is what one sees ~ when they choose to look
It is like memorizing ~ pages from a book.
That which is important ~ always can be found
Surrounded by our memories ~ loved ones are still around.
So when you take this journey ~ down the path you'll go
Closer to the ones you love ~ and memories that you know.
Hold them close to your heart ~ never shall they fade
Rejoice in the heart that holds ~ the memories that you made.
